One of the largest concerns surrounding DIESELGATE is the impact that the emissions “fix” would have on performance and efficiency. So far, it seems those worries were unfounded.

We have two 2015 models in the IDParts fleet – a 2015 Jetta Sedan w/ DSG automatic transmission and a 2015 Golf Sportwagen with the 6-speed manual transmission. The image above is a capture of the in-dash computer of the Jetta Sedan TDI DSG showing an average of 55.1 mpg on a 286 mile highway trip. This has been the best MPG number yet, and it was an all-highway trip.

This isn’t to say that day-to-day has been disappointing. In fact, in-town driving has been netting high 40s in mpg, with a few days hitting close to 50 mpg.

My Fuelly results on a 2015 Passat DSG, 43MPG with winter tires over several tanks, 43MPG with summer tires (one tank so far,) with the software fix applied.
Yes, I was WAY LATE removing the snow tires! 😀

I am driving a new 15 Passat SE with the Fix. I have noticed a little drop in power and 2-3 mpg drop in milage, in other words low to mid 50’s instead of mid 50s to low 60’s. (Best on my previous 15 Passat SE was 67.2). Could be time of year temperatures have not been very high in recent weeks.

Last tank on the 2015 Sportwagen was 50.1!!

You people must be driving downhill all the time. I suggest you forget the readings you get from the silly on-board display and figure your mileage by doing the math yourself. My 2012 TDI DSG has never gotten more than very low 40s on any trip and usually 38-39 on the interstate at 70-75 mph. I get 35 overall in all kinds of driving.

  Bruce – this is for a 2015, which is a different model and engine than your 2012, so they don’t compare. We have hand-calculated a few times and found that the in dash computer is within a few MPG on the DSG models. Manual-transmission cars seem to over-estimate, though.

I am on tank # 6 since purchasing a 2015 Golf TDI S (manual). I calculate by hand every time, and have noted the MFD numbers to compare. Normally, the MFD is 3-5 MPG optimistic over my own numbers. I always fill up at the same Costco. My average is 51.9 MPG, with mostly highway or country road driving. I drive conservatively, consistently, and always look to coast in gear whenever possible. If I drove more aggressively, I would likely post somewhere around 45 average.
