Mercedes ATF Fluid Chart

Finding the right ATF for your Mercedes Transmission can be difficult, and customers often have questions. We’ve created an easy-to-read table to make finding the correct ATF for your Mercedes easy.

Automatic transmission equipped Mercedes diesels from 1981-1996 all essentially have the same transmission. Four speed, no torque converter. These were coded 722.3, .4, and .5, and named 4G-Tronic. After that, Mercedes released a five-speed transmission—coded 722.6 and named 5G Tronic—as well as a seven-speed transmission—coded 722.9 and named 7G-Tronic. Since then, they’ve released a number of different transmissions, but the important date to remember is June 2010. Mercedes started factory filling a different formulation that isn’t backwards compatible.

For a full list of compatible fluids for each transmission, take a look at the Mercedes website.

*Note: Mopar ATF+4 is said by many drivers to be not only compatible but ideal for the earlier 722.3, .4, and .5 transmissions. It is a non-synthetic, mineral based ATF. However, we couldn’t find any fitment information on either the Mercedes website or the ATF+4 page, so we haven’t listed it here.
