Single mass clutch and flywheel kits are often the go-to replacement for older TDIs. Valeo, an OE supplier, offers a full line of custom engineered single-mass clutch conversion kits. These kits are special designed to deliver smooth operation and reliable service life.

What is a Single Mass Flywheel and Clutch Conversion Kit?

All TDIs from 1999 to the latest 2015 models used “dual mass” flywheels. Read more about dual-mass flywheels. Unfortunately over time these flywheels fail, often before the clutch itself is worn out, leading to a premature and expensive repair. Single-mass conversions replace the flywheel with a single-piece design and are matched with a new clutch and pressure plate.

Why are Valeo clutch kits unique?

Other conversion kits, like kits based on Sachs G60 designs, are older OEM clutch designs which can be used on some models. These work well but are not designed specifically for the application. Valeo has kits designed specifically for each generation TDI. Valeo is the only option OE strength single-mass conversion option for the 2009+ Common Rail TDIs with 6-speed manuals.

Who should upgrade to a Valeo Single Mass Conversion Kit?

If your TDI has experienced clutch failure or premature dual-mass flywheel failure a Valeo kit should be on your list for consideration. We recommend Valeo kits for stock, non-modified TDIs. We find them to be smoother than other single mass kits. They also often offer lighter pedal feel than the OE dual-mass designs. They are also less expensive than OE replacements, saving you money on the repair.

Because they are designed to be the best possible OEM replacement, Valeo conversion kits are not designed for TDIs with power upgrades. If you need a clutch which can hold upgraded power levels, we recommend South Bend Clutches.
